Brother Knights,
I am typing this as I am reflecting on a day that threw many curve balls my way that became swing and misses (may be why I coached Hockey not Baseball). Through all of it, all I could do is step back up to the plate and be ready for the next pitch. So many success stories never happen because we do not step back up, we do not take the next swing. Over the past year, we, as a council, did what I see as the most difficult task we can do: we looked in the mirror, saw so many things we have been doing well and decided not to sit on the fastball but swing at the curve and change things up. In theory, everyone wants to improve, however few are willing to take the failures along the way towards successful change. Council 29 has decided that we are going to do that.
Our agenda for the fiscal year is one of many changes, risks, and so many opportunities to grow. I am excited our new social media platforms and increased use of technology has opened doors for donors and members that did not exist before. We are implementing new programs like Trivia Night, Soccer Challenge, Blood Drive and many more. My favorite stat in Hockey is plus minus. If you are on the ice and your team scores, it’s a plus. If the other team scores, it’s a minus. In other words, everyone on that shift is recognized for playing a part in the team’s success and failure. In youth hockey, it teaches the importance of the team and the need to work and give part of yourself for the benefit of the common good. For our council to be successful, we need involvement – we need out of the box thinking and risk takers. We need “One”. We need everyone to do one thing this year. Help out one way, any way you can but if every member does one thing this year, our success will be far beyond our imaginations.
As you see events, activities, and programs and you see one you want to support, we look forward to having you involved “One” way, any way you are able. Your thoughts, ideas, and visions are needed.
I am excited as to what Council 29’s future holds within our community, not only this year, but many years to come.
In Christ,
Brian Walsh
